The combinations in this movie are strange to say the least. Be it the lead pair or the title itself, it is not anyone’s version of conventional twosomes. So this shouldn’t be a surprise that the movie itself was weird and boring! Half way through, the story had still not made sense and was difficult to figure out who was playing ugly and who pagli.

A rip off from the Korean film My sassy girl, Ugly aur Pagli is best described as a slap fest that makes your palms itch to try it out on the next available guy. But while “My Sassy Girl” made you clutch your sides with some really funny dialogues, its desi version can be wrapped up as one loser, one hot girl, 99 slaps and one kiss.
Ranvir Shorey plays a wimpy guy who is trying his luck with every woman he meets. But as luck would have it, the only woman who keeps reappearing in his life is this whip-cracking reject from hell (Mallika Sherawat) who is also a social worker! Please don’t ask for details cos they remain hazy till the climax which ends in true Sherawat style.

The idea of a domineering woman whacking the daylights out of man sure sounds great on paper, but its translation to the screen loses steam. The director tries very hard to make this movie differently funny, but the gags fall flat and the absolute lack of chemistry between the two leads does not help his cause. As individual performances though, they are quite brilliant. Mallik Sherawat rocks as the domineering, sharp-tongued woman with the most wrapped up sense of confidence and Ranvir Shorey polishes his loser act that he began in Mithiya to perfection.

Too bad they picked the wrong script. But one has to mention Sushmita Mukherjee and Bharati Achrekar for giving the film its only funny moments.
